SB-180 18' Self-Bailing Raft
This is not an all-around raft. It is an 18-foot gear boat built to carry the load. The RMR SB-180 sits at the far end of the SB lineup: an oversized, purpose-built self-bailing raft for big water, extended river trips, commercial gear hauling, and trips where carrying capacity matters more than keeping the boat small.
The Gear Boat to End All Gear Boats
Most rafts in the SB family are designed to cross over between paddling, rowing, fishing, and overnight use. The SB-180 is different.
RMR designed this raft specifically as a gear boat. At 18 feet long with 25-inch tubes and more than 14 feet of interior length, its job is to create room for the equipment that starts piling up on long river trips.
Coolers, dryboxes, camp equipment, group gear, food, and expedition loads are exactly the kind of work this boat is built around.
18 Feet of Usable River Platform
The SB-180 measures 100.5 inches wide with a 50-inch interior width and 169 inches of interior length. Its flat section alone measures 92 inches, giving a frame builder a substantial amount of space to work with.
The 25-inch tubes and 33-inch rise make this a substantially larger platform than the SB-160. That additional size is the reason to own one — and also the reason not to buy one unless you actually need it.
Traditional I-Beam Floor for Big Water
The SB-180 uses a self-bailing I-beam floor constructed from 66 oz material. RMR uses I-beam floors throughout the whitewater-focused side of its lineup, and specifically identifies the SB-180 as an I-beam gear-hauling machine.
The floor, baffles, and seams use RMR's welded construction with welded seam tape inside and out.
Built for a Serious Gear Frame
With a 169-inch interior length, 92-inch flat section, and 18 D-rings, the SB-180 gives experienced riggers a large platform for building out a dedicated expedition or commercial gear setup.
Unlike the smaller SB models, RMR does not currently promote a standard frame-builder package alongside this raft. A boat this specialized is better approached as a purpose-built rig around the load, river, and trip it is expected to handle.

SB-180 vs. SB-160
These are both large gear-oriented boats, but they are not interchangeable.
Choose the SB-160 when you want substantial gear capacity for multi-day trips while keeping the raft somewhat more manageable for general rowing, fishing, camping, and mixed-use river trips.
Choose the SB-180 when the trip itself justifies an 18-foot dedicated gear platform: bigger loads, larger expedition setups, commercial support, and serious group equipment.
If you are debating whether you really need an 18-foot raft, the SB-160 is probably the more versatile choice. The SB-180 makes sense when capacity is the reason you are buying the boat in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the SB-180 actually designed for?
RMR describes the SB-180 as a dedicated gear boat and identifies it as a gear-hauling machine for commercial guides. It is intended for large loads, big water, extended trips, and specialized expedition or support use rather than as a general-purpose raft.
Is the SB-180 a paddle raft?
That is not its primary purpose. RMR specifically describes the SB-180 as a gear boat. Buyers looking primarily for a large paddle raft should consider models designed around passenger and paddle-crew use instead.
What is the difference between the SB-160 and SB-180?
The SB-160 is already a large gear-oriented raft but retains broader fishing, camping, and general multi-day versatility. The SB-180 adds another two feet of length, 25-inch tubes, and substantially more interior space for buyers who specifically need a dedicated gear platform.
Is the SB-180 good for extended river trips?
Yes. Extended trips and heavy gear hauling are the primary reasons this model exists.
How much interior room does the SB-180 have?
RMR lists 169 inches of interior length, 50 inches of interior width, and a 92-inch flat section.
How large are the tubes?
The SB-180 uses 25-inch tubes, the largest tube diameter listed on the standard SB models covered here.
How many rigging points does the SB-180 have?
RMR lists 18 D-rings along with 16 handles.
Does RMR offer a standard frame package for the SB-180?
RMR does not currently list a dedicated SB-180 frame-builder package alongside the raft. Because this is a specialized gear boat, frame and rigging requirements should be matched to the intended load and use.
Is the SB-180 always available?
No. RMR lists the SB-180 as a limited-availability model. Preorders and availability questions can be directed to sales@rockymountainrafts.com or 888-785-1844 ext. 6.
