The Roll-Cast: A Real Fishing Raft Without the Trailer

The Rocky Mountain Rafts Roll-Cast is a purpose-built 12-foot fishing raft and frame for one or two anglers who want a capable fishing platform without the storage and transportation demands of a traditional full-size fishing raft setup.

At just 50 inches wide, the Roll-Cast is narrow on purpose. Its compact footprint makes it easier to transport, store, and get to the water while a rigid 6-inch drop-stitch floor, textured EVA traction pad, 17-inch tubes, and purpose-built aluminum fishing frame create a functional platform for standing, casting, and rowing.

The Roll-Cast now starts with the raft, fishing frame, and seating system instead of forcing every angler into the same rowing setup. Already own compatible gear? Use what you have. Starting from scratch or want a complete setup? Build your Roll-Cast with the oars, oar locks, towers, straps, and accessories you want using our Bundle Builder.

Why You’ll Love the Roll-Cast

The Roll-Cast was designed around a specific kind of angler: someone who wants a real fishing raft but doesn't necessarily want the trailer, storage footprint, weight, and bulk that often come with a larger fishing setup.

  • Purpose-built for one or two anglers
  • 12-foot raft with a compact 50-inch overall width
  • No trailer required for many transportation setups
  • Rigid 6-inch drop-stitch floor for standing and casting
  • Textured EVA traction pad for secure footing
  • Removable padded swivel seats
  • Purpose-built aluminum fishing frame made in West Virginia
  • Self-bailing construction
  • Row it or add a compatible small outboard with the separately sold motor mount
  • Build your rowing and accessory package around equipment you actually need
50 Inches Wide. On Purpose.

The Roll-Cast is only 4'2" wide, and that dimension is intentional. Instead of designing another full-width fishing raft, RMR built the Roll-Cast around two anglers, easier transportation, compact storage, and access to water where hauling a larger raft and trailer can become a hassle.

What You Gain

The narrow footprint helps make the Roll-Cast easier to transport and store. It is designed to travel in the bed of many full-size pickup trucks without sitting diagonally across the wheel wells and can also be transported with an appropriately rated roof-rack system or stored inside certain campers and RVs.

What Makes It Fishable

A narrow raft still needs a usable fishing platform. The Roll-Cast combines 17-inch tubes with a removable 6-inch drop-stitch floor that creates a firm surface underfoot. A textured EVA traction pad adds grip while standing and casting.

The Tradeoff

The Roll-Cast does not provide the passenger room or cargo capacity of a wider 13- or 14-foot fishing raft. It wasn't designed to. If your normal crew is three adults or you routinely carry expedition-size loads, a larger RMR fishing setup is the better tool for the job.

Fishing Performance & Construction

Rigid Standing Platform

The removable 6-inch drop-stitch floor creates a firm platform beneath your feet. A textured EVA traction pad adds grip while standing, casting, entering the raft, or moving between seating positions. Water conditions, loading, and passenger movement can still affect stability.

Lightweight PVC Construction

The raft is constructed from 33 oz, 2,000-denier lightweight PVC. The material was selected to balance durability with manageable transport weight.

Welded Seams & Internal Components

The I-beams, baffles, and seams are welded and reinforced with inside-and-outside welded seam tape. The self-bailing design allows water entering the raft to drain through the floor system.

Purpose-Built Fishing Frame

The frame is built in Fayette County, West Virginia from 6061 Schedule 40 aluminum with 1.25-inch pipe. It was designed specifically around the Roll-Cast rather than adapted from a general-purpose raft frame.

Two-Angler Layout

Two removable padded swivel seats create dedicated positions for rowing and fishing while keeping the overall platform compact. The Roll-Cast can also be rowed and fished solo when passengers and equipment are positioned appropriately.

Row It Your Way

Oars, oar locks, oar towers, straps, and other rowing accessories are not automatically bundled into the base Roll-Cast. This keeps anglers who already own compatible equipment from paying for gear they don't need and lets new owners build the rowing setup they want.

Row or Add a Motor

The rear seating position can rotate to support a motoring configuration. Add the Roll-Cast motor mount to use a compatible 2–3 hp long-shaft outboard motor. The motor and motor mount are sold separately.

Is the Roll-Cast Right for Me?

The Roll-Cast is a strong choice if you:

  • Primarily fish alone or with one other angler
  • Want a purpose-built fishing raft without towing a trailer
  • Value easier transportation and storage over maximum interior room
  • Want a rigid floor for standing and casting
  • Fish rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, or ponds
  • Want the option to row or use a compatible small outboard motor
  • Travel with a pickup, properly rated roof rack, camper, or RV
  • Need an inflatable fishing platform that can be disassembled for storage
  • Already own compatible rowing equipment and don't want to buy it twice
  • Want to choose your own rowing and accessory setup through the Roll-Cast Bundle Builder

Consider a larger RMR fishing setup if you:

  • Regularly carry three or more adults
  • Want maximum interior room and a wider fishing platform
  • Need substantial cargo capacity for long, fully loaded expeditions
  • Need a larger raft for a multi-passenger rowing or paddling crew
  • Want a permanently assembled boat that normally remains on a trailer
  • Plan to use an outboard larger than the recommended 2–3 hp range

The Roll-Cast isn't intended to replace every fishing raft. It is the compact option for anglers whose priorities are two-person fishing, portability, storage, and getting to the water without dragging a larger boat everywhere they go.

What’s Included With the Roll-Cast?

The base Roll-Cast gives you the purpose-built raft, frame, and core fishing platform. Rowing equipment and additional accessories can then be selected separately or added through the Bundle Builder.

  • Rear anchor-system pulley and eye bolt
  • 2 removable padded swivel seats
  • Leafield D7 valves
  • 1 patch kit
  • 1 valve wrench
  • Three-year retail warranty on workmanship and materials

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Roll-Cast only 50 inches wide?

The Roll-Cast is narrow by design. Its 50-inch width keeps the overall fishing platform compact for transportation, storage, and access while still providing a rigid 6-inch drop-stitch standing floor between its 17-inch tubes. Anglers who prioritize maximum interior room, larger crews, or expedition-size cargo should consider a larger RMR fishing setup.

Is the Roll-Cast stable enough to stand and fish?

The removable 6-inch drop-stitch floor creates a firm standing surface, while the textured EVA pad adds traction for standing and casting. The Roll-Cast is intentionally narrower than a traditional full-width fishing raft, so loading, passenger movement, current, wind, and water conditions can affect stability.

Why choose the Roll-Cast instead of a traditional fishing raft?

A larger traditional fishing raft gives you more interior room, passenger capacity, and cargo space. The Roll-Cast trades some of that size for a compact two-angler platform that's easier to transport and store and does not require a trailer for many owners. Choose based on the way you actually fish rather than assuming one style of raft is better for every trip.

Who is the Roll-Cast designed for?

It is designed primarily for one or two anglers who want a compact fishing platform for rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, and ponds and who value portability, storage efficiency, and trailer-free transportation.

Who should consider a larger raft instead?

If your normal crew includes three or more adults, you carry substantial multi-day cargo, or maximum interior room is a priority, a larger RMR fishing raft will generally be a better fit for those needs.

Can two people actually fish from the Roll-Cast?

Yes. The Roll-Cast was purpose-built around one or two anglers and includes two removable padded swivel seats. The rigid drop-stitch floor provides usable standing space for fishing. As with any small boat, anglers should remain aware of each other's movement, casting position, equipment, and weight distribution.

Can one person use it?

Yes. Although the layout accommodates two anglers, the Roll-Cast can also be rowed and fished solo. Equipment should be positioned to maintain appropriate balance and control.

Does the Roll-Cast require a trailer?

No. Avoiding the need for a trailer was one of the main goals behind its design. At 12 feet long and 50 inches wide, it is designed to fit in the bed of many full-size pickup trucks without resting diagonally across the wheel wells.

It may also be transported on an appropriately rated roof-rack system or stored inside certain campers and RVs. Always confirm vehicle dimensions, roof capacity, rack capacity, and tie-down requirements before transport.

How much does the Roll-Cast weigh?

The raft weighs approximately 63 pounds. The raft and frame together weigh approximately 125 pounds. Seats, rowing equipment, fishing gear, and accessories increase the total transport weight.

Why aren't oars and rowing accessories included anymore?

Not every angler needs the same setup. Some Roll-Cast buyers already own compatible rowing equipment, while others want to choose their own oars and accessories. Starting with the raft and purpose-built fishing frame lets you pay for the equipment you actually need instead of automatically purchasing a predetermined accessory package.

How do I build a complete Roll-Cast setup?

Use the Roll-Cast Bundle Builder to select the rowing equipment and accessories you want to add to the raft and frame.

Open the Roll-Cast Bundle Builder →

Can I use rowing equipment I already own?

The new base configuration allows owners to use equipment they already have rather than automatically purchasing another complete rowing package. Compatibility still matters, so confirm fit and appropriate sizing before using existing oars, locks, towers, straps, or other components with the Roll-Cast.

Are oars included?

No. Oars are not included with the base Roll-Cast. They can be selected separately or added while configuring your setup through the Roll-Cast Bundle Builder.

Are oar locks, towers, and straps included?

No. The base Roll-Cast does not automatically include oar locks, oar towers, or cam straps. Select the rowing equipment and accessories you need separately or through the Roll-Cast Bundle Builder.

What do I still need before going on the water?

Your exact equipment depends on how and where you use the raft. A rowing setup requires appropriate rowing components. You may also need an inflation pump, properly fitted personal flotation devices, anchor and anchor rope, throw rope, cooler, dry storage, fishing equipment, and other location-specific safety equipment.

What types of water can I use it on?

The Roll-Cast was designed for fishing on rivers, lakes, streams, reservoirs, and ponds. Its compact shape, self-bailing floor, and inflatable construction allow it to travel through shallows, riffles, and rocky fishing environments.

Is it intended for technical whitewater?

The Roll-Cast is primarily a fishing platform. Choose water conditions that match your rowing experience, equipment, loading, and current river conditions. Contact Rocky Mountain Rafts before purchasing if your primary use involves demanding or technical whitewater.

Can I add an outboard motor?

Yes. The rear seating position can rotate for use with the Roll-Cast motor mount and a compatible 2–3 hp long-shaft outboard. The motor mount and motor are sold separately.

Why does it require a long-shaft motor?

The motor-mount position is designed around a long-shaft outboard so the propeller reaches the appropriate operating depth. Confirm compatibility with Rocky Mountain Rafts before purchasing a motor.

Is the motor mount included?

No. The Roll-Cast motor mount is sold separately unless explicitly included in a selected bundle, package, or promotion.

Are the anchor and anchor rope included?

No. The frame includes a rear anchor-system pulley and eye bolt, but the anchor and rope must be purchased separately.

Does the Roll-Cast include a pump?

No. An inflation pump is not included with the base Roll-Cast and should be purchased separately if needed.

Can I remove the frame and seats?

Yes. The aluminum frame and both swivel seats are removable, making it easier to disassemble the setup for transportation, stacking, and off-season storage.

How difficult is assembly?

The Roll-Cast was designed for straightforward assembly with minimal tools. The assembly video above demonstrates the frame setup. Installation of rowing equipment may vary depending on the components selected for your build.

How does the anchor system work?

The frame includes a pulley and eye bolt at the rear for routing an anchor rope. The anchor-system video above demonstrates how to route and secure the rope for easier deployment and retrieval.

Where is the Roll-Cast frame made?

The aluminum frame is built in Fayette County, West Virginia using 6061 Schedule 40 aluminum and 1.25-inch pipe.

How durable is the raft?

The Roll-Cast is built from 33 oz, 2,000-denier PVC with welded I-beams, baffles, and seams. The seams are reinforced with inside-and-outside welded seam tape, while stainless steel D-rings and rubberized handles provide attachment and carrying points.

What happens if the raft is damaged?

A patch kit and valve wrench are included for basic field maintenance. The appropriate repair method depends on the location and extent of the damage. Review the RMR user manual or contact Rocky Mountain Rafts before attempting a major structural repair.

What warranty is included?

Retail purchases include a three-year warranty on workmanship and materials. Commercial use carries a one-year warranty. The warranty is non-transferable and remains subject to Rocky Mountain Rafts' complete warranty terms.

Why buy the Roll-Cast instead of building a fishing raft from separate components?

The raft and aluminum fishing frame were designed around each other as a compact two-angler system. Instead of sourcing the core raft and frame separately, you start with the purpose-built Roll-Cast platform and then choose the rowing equipment and accessories that fit your setup.
