More tube, more flotation, more room for the load. The RMR CT-160 Cat Tubes are the big-gear option in RMR's traditional cataraft lineup, pairing 16 feet of waterline with 24-inch tubes for multi-day trips, larger fishing rigs, bigger water, and frame setups that need additional capacity.

Best for: multi-day river trips, heavy gear, larger fishing setups, big-water rowing, extended trips, and boaters who want more flotation and frame space than a 14-foot cat provides.

The Load-Hauler of the RMR Cat Line

The CT-160 starts with the same basic idea as the CT-140 and simply gives it more room to work.

At 16 feet long with 24-inch tubes, the larger platform provides additional flotation for gear-heavy trips and more space for a substantial frame. RMR specifically positions the matching 16-foot package for multi-day trips, fishing rigs, larger loads, and demanding river conditions.

Longer Waterline, Bigger Platform

Two additional feet of tube changes more than overall size.

RMR notes that the longer waterline of the CT-160 improves tracking, while its curved tube design keeps the boat responsive when the river gets technical.

The 24-inch diameter tubes also provide more flotation than the 22-inch CT-140, making the CT-160 the more natural starting point when the boat routinely carries substantial gear.

Three Chambers Per Tube

Like the CT-140, each CT-160 tube contains three independent air chambers.

RMR highlights this across its cataraft lineup as an extra level of redundancy compared with conventional two-chamber cat tubes.

Built for a Serious Frame

RMR's dedicated 16-foot cat frame is built specifically around these tubes and uses 1-1/2-inch anodized aluminum construction. Together, the frame and CT-160 tubes create a large, configurable platform for coolers, dry storage, fishing gear, and longer river trips.

If you are starting from scratch, the complete package builder makes considerably more sense than buying tubes first and figuring out the rest afterward.

CT-160 vs. CT-140

The decision mostly comes down to how much boat you actually need.

Choose the CT-140 when you favor a smaller, quicker platform for technical rowing, day trips, fishing, and moderate gear loads.

Choose the CT-160 when the boat will routinely carry more gear, spend time on extended trips, use a larger fishing setup, or benefit from the additional flotation and tracking of a 16-foot hull.

Bigger is useful when you're using the capacity. If you aren't, the CT-140 remains the more compact and responsive option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the CT-160 tubes sold as a pair?

Yes. The CT-160 product includes a pair of 16-foot cat tubes.

Who is the CT-160 best for?

The CT-160 is best suited to rowers building larger cataraft rigs for multi-day trips, substantial gear loads, fishing, bigger water, and extended river travel.

Why choose the 16-foot tubes instead of the CT-140?

The CT-160 adds two feet of length and increases tube diameter from 22 inches to 24 inches. RMR positions that additional size around greater flotation, larger loads, improved tracking, and more room for multi-day and fishing setups.

Is the CT-160 still maneuverable in technical water?

RMR specifically says the curved tube design helps the 16-footer remain responsive in technical river sections even though the longer waterline increases tracking and carrying ability.

Why are there three air chambers in each tube?

Independent chambers add redundancy. If one chamber is compromised, the remaining chambers provide additional flotation while the problem is addressed.

Is the CT-160 good for multi-day trips?

Yes. Multi-day use is one of the primary applications RMR identifies for the 16-foot cataraft package because of its increased flotation, longer tubes, and larger frame capacity.

Can the CT-160 be built as a fishing cataraft?

Yes. RMR specifically lists fishing rigs among the intended uses for the 16-foot package. Its larger platform gives the frame more room for fishing equipment and gear.

Do I need a separate frame?

Yes. Cat tubes are the inflatable pontoons of the boat. A frame is required to connect them and create the rowing and cargo platform. RMR offers a dedicated 16-foot cat frame and complete package builder.

What are the CT-160 tubes made from?

RMR uses 44 oz / 3000-denier RockShield PVC with triple-fused baffles and seams and welded seam tape inside and out.

What comes with the CT-160?

RMR lists a repair kit and valve wrench with the CT-160. The frame, oars, and other rigging components are separate unless purchased through a package.

What warranty does the CT-160 have?

RMR lists a 6-year retail and 3-year commercial warranty on workmanship and materials, subject to the manufacturer's complete warranty terms.
